Ben Ryan is President of Tourmaline Properties and Tourmaline Construction. A Navy SEAL officer for six years, Ben began his real estate development career at Triple Canopy, a private security firm with extensive operations in Iraq and the Middle East. At Triple Canopy, he planned and developed a large secure housing compound in Baghdad. Ben also has construction experience in Afghanistan.
Prior to Tourmaline, Ben was a Managing Director at Westwind Investors, LP, where he spearheaded the firm’s real estate activities.
Ben also founded Narbrook Development, a Philadelphia-based residential development and construction company specializing in urban infill properties.
Ben has been profiled in the Philadelphia Inquirer and published in the Wall Street Journal. He has also appeared as a television commentator, and been a guest speaker at the Urban Land Institute, NAIOP and Temple University. Ben serves on the boards of the Pacific Beach Planning Group and the Beach & Bay YMCA. He is a licensed general contractor and real estate broker, and a 2017 finalist for Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year award.
Ben earned a BA in Biology from Yale University, where he captained the lightweight crew, and received an MBA from Harvard Business School. He resides in San Diego with his wife and four children.
Jake Hunter is Chief Operating Officer at Tourmaline Properties and Tourmaline Construction. He oversees day-to-day operations of the company, managing workflow between subcontractors, suppliers, and Tourmaline Construction, as well as acquisition, design, and disposition of properties.
Jake began his career in real estate at Cassidy Turley, a commercial real estate services firm, where he focused on office and industrial properties, before moving to San Diego to join the Tourmaline team.
Jake was named to the San Diego Daily Transcript’s “40 Under 40” list of top business professionals in San Diego under the age of 40 for 2017.
Jake earned a BA in Political Science from Yale University, where he was a member of the varsity baseball team.
